I'm from a quiet suburb about an hour from Boston, MA. Looking to relocate to Charlotte/Asheville. I'd like mountain/town life so if Charlotte is anything like Boston during the day it's probably not for me. I've never visited, but an online job search says thats where the jobs are and it has it's benefits of twisty roads and rolling hills right outside of the city. I'm planning on hitting the road and setting up in a intown suite until I land a job. Being 27 and single and job hunting for IT work what counties should I check out and avoid?

You might want to also consider Asheville, NC, Boone, NC, or Greenville, SC. All are very nice places either in the mountains are very close. I suppose that Charlotte would be like Boston if Boston were smaller and 200 miles inland without Harvard. But is is a nice city with nice areas. There are plenty of options in these parts.

There are data centers going into areas west of Charlote, but not in the mountains.

Why would you move here if you've never visited?
