Memphis is coming to the theaters for a VERY limited run starting April 28th-May 2nd . It won the Tony for Best Musical (plus 3 others, Best Music, Best Orchestra and best Book) and it is AMAZING. They filmed it in HD for this limited run - RUN do not walk to see it. (Yes I am going!)
The music was written by David Bryan from Bon Jovi and it is the stuff you sing on the way out. The story is about the first white DJ to play African American music on the white radio station (I had no clue even the radio was segregated back then)
It is NOT preachy and there is no evil person in it - it is just a great story with an incredible cast - the music is wonderful, the story is incredible - well worth the $20 per person (I paid 5xs that to see it on Broadway). It is probably not appropriate for children under 10 but it really has a wonderful story and an INCREDIBLE cast.
It is playing at the Stonecrest Theaters in Piper Glen and the AMC Theaters in Concord Mills. If you google Memphis the Musical you can get all the info.
