I think they could have gotten at least 3 number 1s for his rights, but like I said before I'm sure hurney would have screwed that up.
I was about to go all in but I see you want Luck for picks...

What the Panthers need is an honest assessment of who stays and who goes...

They need help on D something serious...

Think about it. If a washed up Carson Palmer could bring a 1st and a 2nd, and that 2nd could turn into a 1st then I would think they could easily get 3 1sts think about having 2 1st rd picks for 3 years. Or maybe 2 firsts and 2 seconds those 2nds are sometimes better than firsts. Team could be stacked for a long time. Its a mute point now. Needed to lose to Indy. Ah what could have been!

Panthers need not draft Luck to barter for other picks, anyway it's far fetched at this point. They should draft in this order:

1. DB/Safety
2. Receiver (if you can get Justing Blackmon from OK State, reverse order of 1 and 2).
3. Best remaining defensive specialist (DB or LB)
4. Rinse and repeat (DT or Safety)

Maybe squeeze in a OL or solid RB as Dwill and JStew have 2-3 more servicable years. At wide receiver, Gettis will be back and injured defensive players. Shore up the run defense and secondary a bit, add a top flight receiver to the corps..maybe 9-7 or 10-6 next year with good coaching.

Andrew Luck didn't duplicate the numbers from last year, but he looked very good against Notre Dame (and a few other games I have watched). He's more accurate than Cam, especially short throws (at this stage of his career), doesn't have as strong an arm but has been trained to QB since a toddler (Peytonish) so he's already an extension of the coach. I think he'll be solid in the NFL and if Cam continues to develop, both will have stellar NFL careers.

Sure you would draft luck to barter for picks. If they would have lost to indy they would have been in the running. You wouldn't pass on that player. Even if he had to sit on the bench for part of the year. It wouldn't even get that far you would have a ton of teams trying to get that top pick.

Point being the panthers don't need to win anymore games. they are just hurting their draft stock at this point!

The Panthers need to win as many games as possible so they know who is worth keeping and who needs to go. This is the time where you see who wants a job.

If we had the first pick Luck would return to Stanford for another year. He doesn't want to be a Panther or he would've cam out last year.

We aren't getting the first pick anyways so it's a waste of time to try to lose all the games you have left.

The D is bad but they played the hardest schedule in the league and we in 10 of the 11 games they played. Laying down doesn't help this team win it just makes it harder to evaluate who should stay and who should go.

I think the greatest coup of this type was Dallas' Herschel Walker trade to the Vikings for 1st/2nd round picks and eventually built a superbowl team. If the Panthers could draft Luck, he'd have to be instantly negotiated for other picks or free agents. Imagine that fickle situation, totally destroy team chemistry considering the rumor mill etc...basically a repeat of the Tebow scenario. We missed the boat on Luck, he didn't wanna play here but if were possible to negotiate for some topnotch talent, you have a point.

The Panthers need to keep playing strong...3-13, 4-12, or 5-11...they'll be in position to draft a quality player.

They aren't getting Luck and there is no reason to think we had a chance. Last year he stayed in because Jerry Richardson sounded like a looney tune character in his presser when he was chewing on a steak, telling female reporters to sit closer to him and telling the world he would draft Luck...

Luck said no thanks, I like college...

I agree... as long as the Panthers are top 5 they will have a good pick on their hands.

Funny I said that same thing last year...

This is excellent commentary on one of NFL-type caliber throws. Cam's arm strength and ability to zip balls in tight pockets is impressive (especially slant routes). He has some issues with the touch throws and mid-range sideline passes (overthrows):

Inside the Play: Cam Newton to Steve Smith – fp

Good stuff...not just hype, this guy has a lot of potential if continues to improve (don't get caught-up in the hype).

Congrats to Cam for setting the record of most rushing TD's by a QB. When the Panthers get their defense back, this team will be something to watch.
