Hi - any suggestions on restaurants (not chain or fast food) but someplace that would be fun for a group of friends (4 couples) to eat before we go to a concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater? we are meeting friends from out of town and have no idea where to go in the Univerity area. Thanks in advance!

Nanine

There's a place called the Grand Promanede at the intersection of W.T Harris and North Tryon. The complex is broken into two phases. With the second phase right behind the first. The first phase has an IHOP, Thai House, Indian Restaurant and many more to name. The second phase houses a really nice Vietnamese restaurant and the infamous Golden Krust.

And that is where Melting Pot is...on the second floor (elevator accesible).

You are basically talking the speedway neighborhood which mostly has the normal chain slop. The best restaurants in that area would probably be in the shoppes at the corner of tryon and harris.

thank you all, we went to University shopping center at Clay and went to Lava Bistro. Pricey but excellent food & wine in a nice shopping center with a small pond/lake, walking area...John Mayer concert tonight was awesome! I will check out the other restaurant offerings in the future. The Japanese & Vietnamese restaurants sound really good.
