Sounds like the previous owner did not call to shut them off, thus they need proof you are the owner?

I have never had that problem other than the credit check-- they always do that to see if they need to charge you a deposit.

Credit check is normal. Application online or over the phone.

The builder is supposed to have them turn off everything typically 2 or 3 days after closing.

Im in Monroe, and all I had to do was go to the office and have them do a credit check. What utility company are you dealing with?

Piedmont gas wanted $165 or run credit check, so they ran credit check.

Duke I had with apartment so one quick phone call

Water was straight forward just the connection fee for first bill

CT communications charge 2 months in the first bill

Time Warner first month free, no connection fees.

Yeah we had issues, too. One of the companies (I don't recall which one) actually made us fax over copies of our driver's licenses which I thought was strange. Otherwise everyone else wanted a deposit or a credit check, and since we have great credit we just had them run a credit check and it was fine.
