This is a great forum! I am so glad to have found it. We are relocating from NY and I am really anxious to get my kids (one 7th grader and one 9th grader) involved so they can meet some kids before school starts. My 7th grader is a boy who is sports minded and my 9th grader is a girl who likes softball but that is about it as far as sports. I am so nervous for them and it is stressing me out completely. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.

I don't live in Union County, so can't help you with your question, but if you could post the town that you're moving to, the people in Union County will be able to give you more specific information.

Congrats on you new home!
Look to join the Siskey YMCA - it's very popular and has lots for kids to do.

Being involved heavily in sports in Union County (and a transplant from NJ), if you send me a DM or post the town you are relocating, I can help you out w/more info on specific athletic associations! (ie MARA/South Charlotte (formerly OP)/WCWAA/ITAA/Porter Ridge/etc.....)
Like Loves said, the siskey Y is a great organization...
There are some great sports organizations and facilities for your kids... As Jack points out, we can offer more help if we know more specifically what part of Union you'll be living in.
We moved to Union County during the summer (07) also, I had my daughter (elementary aged at the time) attend 2 different week long summer camps but she didn't end up meeting anyone that she would gone to school with. I would check out the neighborhood you're moving to, if there's a pool, spend time there, simply taking walks around the neighborhood might allow you to meet other adults with kids in the neighborhood, and they might be able to give you pointers.
There ended up being a girl my daughter's age who lived a few houses away from us, the two of them spent most of their free time together that summer, and they ended up as classmates as well.
I think they'll be fine. Even if they don't meet many kids their age over the summer think about how much reading/chores etc they might have time for!
Sorry! We are moving to Waxhaw and kids will be attending Cuthberston iddl and High Schools. I look forward to the info..
Another idea......if you are interested at all in churches you can check out churches that are close to Cuthbertson and if your kids get involved with the youth group they will meet children their age. Five Stones meets at Cutherbertson Middle and might be a place to start.
Another great way was mentioned above.......if your neighborhood has a pool that will be golden! They should meet several kids their age that will be going to the same schools.
