Possibly moving to Charlotte area. Where is the best place to live based on public schools (high school) as #1 priority? Coming from area with top rated schools and safe community for children. Will endure commute for job if necessary for best place to live.

People will have all kinds of opinions on that, lol

Do you know where your job is located yet?

Not sure about job location. Would like high school experience to be both challenging (students scoring high on ACT or SAT) as well as "traditional" with band program, sports (swimming), school clubs, etc. Want safe community where children can play outside, bike to ice-cream shops, community library, etc. Basically suburbia dream-land!

People responding here live all over an metro that covers ~3000+ sq miles. You might want to give us a little more information so that it can be narrowed down a bit. Pricing would help. If you don't have a job lined up, then don't come here.

Charlotte is a very suburban city - many places meet your description. And neighborhood pools and swim teams are very popular, especially in south Charlotte.

We could just give you random answers, based on where we live. On the other hand, if you don't know where you'd be working, you could have a commute equivalent to living in NE Grand Rapids & commuting to a job in Kalamazoo or Portage. Potentially worse. Is that OK with you? I know that it wouldn't be OK with me. If you move here & change jobs & get the commute from hell that's one thing, but why would you want to start in that position?

Where in Michigan are you moving from? I am assuming Michigan because of your "name"
That might help when comparing schools.

We are from Michigan too

In CMS - Providence and Myers Park have had the highest average SAT scores. These are also the highest in the region.
CMS, state SAT scores up slightly | CharlotteObserver.com & The Charlotte Observer Newspaper (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/09/14/1691067/cms-state-sat-scores-up-slightly.html - broken link)
