I haven't been in so long, but used to love it. My wife has never been, and I'm thinking of taking her there on Thursday, July 7th. Do you think it would be very busy that day, considering it is a weekday? I'm thinking it might be anyway, just because it is around the 4th but don't really have a frame of reference here.

Also, do they still have smurf land? I wouldn't ride any rides there obviously, but would still love to see it again!

Sadly Smurf Island has been gone for years. I loved it when I was a kid! The area is now filled in and is home to the Nighthawk coaster.

I think it will be crowded that day. Carowinds

Wow! If you haven't been to the park since the Smurf Island days, you will not even recognize the place. I've been going to Carowinds since the day they opened in 1973 and although I know parks have to continually update and add new attractions to stay competitive, I hate the fact that the "Caro" theming has been practically wiped from the park. They have made a feeble attempt to keep certain rides named after local places or people but nothing like the first 10 years when you had the separate themed areas like Pirate Island (long gone), Contemporary Carolinas, Queens Colony, Carolina R.F.D., Frontier Outpost and the others which are long gone. It is basically a thrill park now, with very little theming. Only 4 rides remain from the original parks 1973 opening. But I still like the place and go there for a coaster fix now & then. Update us on your visit. I will be curious to know your opinion of the changes.

I think the last time I went was in 1998. It was a lot of fun. I like roller coasters, but not up-side down ones. Looks like there are an abundance of both, as well as other thrill rides. I guess I'm just hoping it'll be worth the $41 and if there is enough besides rides to occupy the time.

I have heard alot of complaints about Carowinds and how they won't go now.

I have never been there but I don't ride rollercoasters. (yes I am a huge chicken)
