I over heard a conversation yesterday between to mothers. They were discussing the option of paying the public school a tuition for their child to go into a different district.
I did not know that was possible? Is it?
Can a CMS child go to a Union Co school if they pay tuition or vice versa?
I am pretty sure you can do this in Cabarrus county. I think you have to pay somewhere around 1K though I'm not sure if that is a one time payment or if you have to make multiple payments.
The last time I talked to someone doing this, the rate was $1,600 per year for tuition for out of district.
It works well if you are not trying to get your child into the best rated schools. It is next to impossible to get into places like Myers Park, Marvin Ridge, or similarly rated schools.
It does NOT work for Magnet programs, I checked. I wanted my youngest to go to Smith Academy in CMS. We live in UC. I was more than willing to pay $1,600. I was told no, even though there was room at the time......GRRRRRR.

taxpayer money going to vouchers

Wish those thoughts weren't engrained in my head!
