I am glad he is okay, too. Well, physically okay . . . you know this had to have a big impact on him, especially since he had a gun pulled on him before he moved here.

These are the types of robberies that really concern me - when thugs break in and there are people in the house.

I haven't researched recent statute changes in re: to "castle doctrine." I had heard NC had beefed up home owner rights. Kitty, do you have info on this? Has the law changed? It might be good to know what, if any, changes have been made as to what a homeowner can do if someone breaks in and threatens w/ a gun.

I remember reading that under a threat like that, the homeowner is authorized to use deadly force.

Or maybe I just view it as common sense that if an armed intruder comes into my home, said intruder gives up all rights to life. No warning.

Well, that is how I feel about it, too, Vmax . . . but dang what a situation for a 13 y/o to be put in. I would not have wanted my son to grab my mossberg and fire on them b/c I would be afraid the thugs would shoot my son . . . as it is, losing a TV is nothing compared to a child having a gun pointed at him.

The thing is . . . one does not always know if a perp has a gun, until it is too late and they have flashed it or aimed it. So it is confusing as to what a homeowner is and isn't gonna get in trouble for. I have heard that perps (or their families) have even sued homeowners after the perp got injured during a confrontation. Crazy world we live in.

Yes, there have been changes. North Carolina now has a Castle doctrine law....
Here is a link to the abbreviated version of the law.

Your welcome

Right, it goes into effect in December, not sure why it was pushed out that far but the fact that we have this now is a huge milestone!!

Oh I wasn't suggesting that a 13 y/o get into a gun battle with armed thugs. He walked away uninjured, and that's the best outcome that could be for this situation.

The general impression I get is that the public is fed up to the point that armed perps don't get much traction in court. But if all else fails...dead men tell no tales.

It probably takes that long to educate all the LEOs, DA's, and anyone else who might be affected by the change, and get the paperwork to all the LE offices.

I read through it and it seems pretty straightforward. If you're a law abiding citizen, and some non resident or LEO is breaking in or has broken in to your home, and you are in fear of injury or death then deadly force is acceptable. And you're not under any criminal or civil liability. It didn't say anything about the perp being armed.

Glad this kid came out ok.

In other news a 15 year old was shot last night, and a 17 year old was arrested on one of two robberies last night as well. At 17 he has been arrested twice including just a month ago. Some posters might say I just see what I want to see, or that this is not crime or newsworthy. Just putting it out there.
