Our gutters are in pretty bad shape and it's time to start looking into replacing them. It's a two-story house, and I'm not real happy about getting up there on a ladder to clean them out, so we are looking for something that won't clog with leaves.

Got any recommendations or must-to-avoids? What kind of money are we talking about for a full replacement job?

I got a quote about 6 months ago for having my gutters replaced. They are the typical builder grade gutters that are close to 20 years old. He said he would replace them for ~$1200. This guy has cleaned my gutters for years so I would trust the work he does. This did not include any kind of leaf guard system. For the most part I think they are all a waste of money. I didn't have it done since I thought I could squeeze a few more years out of them.

However I did see something at Costco this past weekend that was intriguing. It was a rigid solid mesh that fits down in the gutter. Since the gutter is full, leaves and debris can't fall in. I need to do some more investigating.

We have those and they work well.

Don't waste your mony buying fancy gutters - you will get killed $$$$$$. It's best to get a gutter cleaning crew or company to do thier job once a year, when leaves have already fallen! Anything that collects water, collects debris.

I recently used Carolina Gutters and Roofing and have been pleased.
They have been in business for some time and checked out on BBB.

Did they quote a per linear foot cost or cost for entire job or what? I need to replace gutters soon, but what I am hearing on variance on prices is unreal. I don't necessarily want the "cheapest" job - but I want good gutters at a reasonable price and installed by professionals.

I honestly don't recall and don't have the quote with me. He seemed to be pretty much in line with what the insurance adjuster had estimated.

We have Gutter Guards at my house. I am not really a big fan because dirt and small debris still gets into the gutters so you have to clean them about every 2-3 years. Its such a HUGE pain to clean them because you have to unscrew all the gutter guards, remove them, clean, replace, re-screw.

I almost think you would be better off with no guards and just clean them once per season.

^^^^^^^^ yantosh, is the thing you saw at Costco this: GutterStuff GutterStuff - Gutter Guard Foam Filter - Rain Gutter Cleaning - Better Than A Gutter Cover!

That looks interesting. I might just go for a standard gutter installation and add that stuff myself on the side of the house that typically clogs.
