Is it my imagination or are there a lot of mopeds around recently? I might just be noticing them more since I recently watched Police Academy 3. But, it seems like there are a lot around.

The weather has just warmed up and all the fair-weather-only riders have come out of hibernation.

I noticed a lot of moped's and bicycles on the road on Sunday. Not sure if being in Amsterdam caused that!

I've been noticing them too! Maybe it has to do with all of the recent DUI arrests. ha ha.

Gas prices are probably coming in to play with this as well.

Ive been seeing them since March. They are mostly annoying as they are so freekin slow, and they always drive on roads that are 45-55mph.

Where would you like them to drive?

DOT have you ever try to drive and not access a road that is 45-55? Do you feel the same with Bicycles?

I use to drive a scooter for couple of years and motorists often try to pass with oncoming traffic it was scary .
If roads where more 4 lanes or have bike lanes I try to take them but often I was on 115, 21, or 73 I didn't have those options.

Riding a scooter is great way to feel the open air, being able to look up at the skyscrapers Uptown and best part and probably why there presence is more a scooter can get 100 mphs a gallon.

I actually love mopeds. My friend had one when we were kids, the older 70's style ones, and they were a blast. We got them up to about 40mph. We stuck to side roads with speed limits at 35 or under.

Theres a lot of roads, esp in Fort Mill, like US21 and 160, that are very busy and around 45 or so mph. Most people ride scooters, which are slower then most mopeds. Granted, some of them know enough to move to the right and stay out of the way, but a few think they are a car and block the entire road. When your driving a scooter that cant go past 25 on US21 thats 55mph and your not staying to the right, thats when I have an issue.

Ive debated on getting a moped, but it would need to be able to do 45, as I dont want to be in the way driving down 160.

The scooter I had will only go 35 any faster by nc law which maybe different than SC require to have tag and registration.

I did ride in middle of the lane a lot of time due to the poor road shoulders crumblimg edge of road with rocks or if it was stop and go traffic and at stop lights.
I move to the right if it there enough room for me with oncoming traffic.
Ideally bike lanes is safe way for everyone.

Now where I live farm tractors and macinery is most common slow poke I have to share the road with.
