The e-edition is an exact photographic duplicate of the print edition, and is different from the charlotteobserver.com website, although they both share some content. I am glad to hear it is offered for free this week, as the security delays may disrupt distribution to outerlying areas such as down here in Greenville, SC, which receives the first edition from a relay courier.
Yup but they are saying it's because of the extra security for the DNC. I would have sold it as "hey visitors have a free copy of our paper as a gift" instead.

I had no idea they had the e-edition either. Was with a friend from Raleigh and she had the e-edition of the News & Observer on her iPad and I thought it was pretty cool. I told her we didn't have that in CLT...she was amazed....came home and even ran a search on the CO website for this type of subscription and couldn't find it...perhaps I put in the wrong words, but point being, WHO KNEW??? They haven't done a very good job of marketing this. Have to say, I did try it, but found it not that much fun on my laptop...seems more iPad friendly to me....I'll stick with the old version for now.
I found the Ipad version not that useful, but on the PC it's fine especially if you have a widescreen display that can be turned 90 degrees. It's like reading a full sized electronic paper.
If the Observer wants to do people a favor they should give them a free week subscription to a real paper like the Times or Journal
