I'm thinking that an upset Gastonia native will find much stronger words than "Yankee" when attempting to insult someone else.

While I rarely see the native "type" who I referenced, I also rarely see the transplant "type" who is offensive to so many people. I have witnessed a few verbal slap-downs & in each case, the native was easily identifiable as a resident of a very rural area who had come into town.

Just FYI, those are not Christians. Faith is not just a southern thing, however religion is deeply seeded in our upbringing.

Many people hate the yankees because they believe them to be obscenely over-paid baseball players, currently in 2nd place in the AL East

I'm thinking this isn't much on the mind of Southerners.

When I moved here 30+ years ago from OHIO yes, I received lots of yankee blurts. Today, our area is made up mostly of people from everywhere around the US. You need to float around in different parts of our area as Gastonia has not changed much. Bessemere City or Cherryville is not floating around - Charlotte is your best bet.

I know faith is not a specific southern thing. You obviously didn't get what I was explaining (about extreme hypocrisy). (Talking very bad about people (behind their backs in one breath, and then in the other breath referencing following what God would do in alot of situations..)
I obviously didn't say that about all (most are good people just like most transplants are good people), I'm just making a point about what I see day to day.....
Nothing more than that.

Sort it took me a day to respond. I don't personally have an experience with this, its just from different forums, etc. I figure its probably just people putting on their big boy pants on the internet, but it just seemed to be a fairly common sentiment. Maybe I'm wrong. The only negative experience I've had was in asheville, and even it wasn't bad.
what's fifo?Oh, and about gastonia. That's where we rented an apartment. Looked around, gastonia, rock hill, charlotte, hickory and up to statesville. Ended up in gastonia, although where I am now is outside the city, in South Gastonia, not sure if that's an actual town or not, but we're in the country near crowders mountain. I like it.

I own a T-shirt with the term "Yankee Hater" on it but it is geared towards the baseball team and not people from the north. I bought the shirt from a company in Boston.

OK, you're in SW Gastonia? Near Archie Whiteside Road & the Food Lion?
