Hoping to find some guidance in terms of neighborhoods to rent in. We're coming from LA, where housing costs (while falling) are ridiculous compared to the rest of the country. So, I really don't know what a good rental deal looks like in the Charlotte area. Looking for 2 or 3 BDRM with washer/dryer hook-ups, hardwood/tile flooring (no carpeting) somewhere in the $600-900/mo range.
I will be working for Bank of America (uptown) starting in August, so I would like a commute of 30 minutes or less. My wife won't be working for at least a year. We are in our early 30s and are expecting our first child in January
. Schools are not an issue yet, as we hope to be able to buy a house by the time schools become an issue.
Really, we're interested in a relatively safe neighborhood that doesn't make for too much of a commute to Uptown. We share a car (for now), so something close to mass transit (Lynx/South Blvd?) could justify a higher price tag.
Right now, we're looking at a 2BDRM/2BATH apartment in the Oakhurst neighborhood for 590. Any feedback on that neighborhood (or 1st Ward or Dilworth) would be much appreciated.
BTW, I know that people like South Charlotte, esp. Ballytyne, but for now, I think it's out of our price range. I visited the area in 2009 and based on rental prices, I think we'll end up closer to Uptown. Thanks!
