My guess of what happened:

H/M picks up or is picked up by a B/F prostitute. Take the H/M to the hotel room. Two B/M's attempt to rob him. H/M resists and the B/M's murder him.

Once again, that's my guess

I haven't bothered to look this up so am just going on memory, but haven't the biggest riots in this country's history occurred during hot weather? For some reason, I have always associated social unrest and an increase in violent crime with hot weather. Feel free to prove I am out of my tree, lol.

That scenario has happened at that motel before. My guess is a drug deal gone bad. I say that because the HM has a drug record and the punks who robbed him have records as well.

I know my tolerance is way down this time of year. I'm ready to riot on a moment's notice.

somewhat true. the biggest riots I can think of (LA Riots in 90s, Watts Riots 60s, Miami Riots in 80s) occured in places that are basically hot all the time.

What is the connection between large riots and these events?

One of my co-worker is very good friends with this victim's family. So sad that this happened. I am glad that at least all suspects have been caught and aprehended. I can't even imagine the pain the family is going through.

Just an aside we were making that heat seems to get folks agitated and therefore, doing violent things.

Yes, we often forget that there are typically other family members/friends (and whole communities) that suffer when folks become the victims of violence or are killed in senseless ways.
