They best be careful entering someone's property, you never know who might just be armed.
Burglars targeting homes in Myers Park, Eastover | CharlotteObserver.com & The Charlotte Observer Newspaper (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/08/11/2518643/burglars-target-homes-in-myers.html - broken link)
It is beyond absurd to me that people don't take a very basic step in protecting themselves, their families and their properties. Is it really that difficult to remember locking your doors? While a thief isn't entitled to anything, why be an easy target? Why expose yourself to unnecessary danger? Why abandon common sense?

I think a lot of us in urban neighborhoods get complacent. I don't live in Eastover, but I'm not too far from there. I've woken up many mornings to see a door left unlocked. I'm thankful that I'm in a safe area and I'm not so paralyzed by a fear-mongering media that I can sleep peacefully at night whether or not I turned on the electrified perimeter.
My pop always told me that locks only keep honest people honest... a thief is gonna get in either way. It's somewhat disconcerting that folks would so harshly judge the victim of a crime. It's akin to blaming a rape victim for wearing a short skirt as far as I'm concerned. Tacky as hell!
