The city recently agreed to help subsidize this project. It actually already broke ground back in April. Good news for this side of town.

"The Mosaic Village project will have 6,800 square feet of retail space, 80 student dorm rooms and a 45,000-square-foot art learning center and office building. In addition, there will be a 403-space parking deck with 223 public parking spaces." City will subsidize West Trade development | CharlotteObserver.com & The Charlotte Observer Newspaper (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2011/07/27/2483578/city-aids-w-trade-plan.html - broken link)

All this is, is an attempt to rob Peter and pay Paul. Even the Mayor has concerns over this.

So is this just for use by Johnson C. Smith students? Or is the art center open to the public, i.e., studios that artists can sign up to use or rent? I would like to know more info. I would like to find space for an art studio and so am curious what the possibilities are.
