Hello..

I am planning to move to Huntersville, NC from CT in May 2007. I currently have Verizon service but am thinking of changing to Sprint because will be using my cell as my only phone and I like the idea of free calling after 7pm. Anyone know if Sprint service is pretty decent in this area?

Thanks,
Jenn

Hi Jenn! Welcome to NC!

I have had Sprint for the past 5 years with NO problems to speak of...however, my husband, who has used Verizon for the past 8 years hits "holes" in coverage all over town. I hope that helps a little...I'm sure everyone has an opinion of some sort about this topic!

We just moved to Mooresville from NJ. The Verizon service down here is pretty bad. We tried calling Verizon to see if we can get out of our contract, and they tell us that we are on the "fringe area" of the towers, but should still get reception, so they wont waive the early cancelation. It gets me mad because the whole time they are telling me this I am standing outside on a hill in the backyard just to pick up 1 bar so I could talk to them.

And we went to the Verizon store, and both times we were in there, there were other customers in there complaining about the service. So they know it is a problem no matter what their maps say.

*DISCLAIMER*
The above post was not meant in any way to either compare the area of Mooresville to any in NJ, or to say it should be made more like NJ in the future. It is only posted to inform people of my personal experince with cell phone reception, and lack of customer service from Verizon.

Devildog...
See, I knew there were others disgusted w/ Verizon's service!

BTW, I love your disclaimer and feel perhaps they should be included in more posts!

Same here, I have sprint...somewhat forced as every darn change extends your contract 2 years- but overall I'm getting good value because they keep throwing extra stuff at me

Anyway, reception is very good, and I too also almost use my phone exclusively. In NC this will be my first land line in about 3 years, in which I only got it because I'm expecting poweroutages (and your VOIP phones won't work) and if I can't charge my cell, that'll be the only mode of outbound communication for us.

Only hit a few deadspots on Providence Road, mostly because the road seems to dip and turn and very wooded in a particularly section.

Overall you should be fine.
