Healthy Home Market (formerly Home Economist) has jars of spices and herbs in bulk; you can buy just what you need.

Super G or any other Asian food store. But I have seen it at "regular" grocery stores as well.

You would find them in any Indian store near your place. Those 2 items are commonly used in Indian cooking.

HArris Teeter usually carries Anise but you have to go to the more trendy stores like in huntersville and charlotte, They will cater more to exotics than say..... Union county stores or kannapolis, they seem to cater more toward the meat and potatoes type families. I was a produce manager there before I moved, I actually ran the produce department in Huntersville across from the Hospital and I regularly carried both items although the cardomom did not sell well so you may have a hard time finidng that, most stores stick to the Ginger root (look in the dry section by the potatoes) but i do know that if you catch the Produce manager or a store Co-Manager they will order a case in and let you buy as little as you need just to make you happy. Just need to catch them about 2 days before you need it. they get truck every other day. Hope this helps. Otherwise I agree with everyone else too. Whole Foods should be able to carry it as well.

The best place in the area to buy such spices as cardomon, anise, and other such spices are Indian grocery stores. There are plenty around. I think the best ones are near Pineville. There are two big Indian grocers next to each other on Tryon (I believe) almost in Pineville. Other than that, there are Chinese grocery stores (huge like supermarkets) on Tryon Street. South Boulevard has a selection of ethnic stores including what I said as well as Hispanic. But, as others have said, Fresh Market is a good source as is Home Economist (they specialize in spices). A new Indian grocer recently opened in Mooresville, exit 33.
