I know of a couple of instances, in South Jersey, where good local, non-chain coffee houses killed Starbucks.

^ Should have happened here too, but I suppose we have too many young professionals and soccer moms who don't know any better.

Coffee houses are really a staple in the eastern part of our country, but not in huge quantities. The coffee houses in Greenwich Village in NYC were written about & talked about in the 50s. The Main Point, in Bryn Mawr, outside of Philadelphia was well known for performances by rock, folk, & blue grass performers.

Starbucks is sort of the McDonalds of coffee houses.

For instance, Ingles has Starbucks in some of the stores. There is no Starbucks in the Kings Mountain Ingles because there is a nice non-chain coffee house downtown.

Ha Starbucks is alright (and I prefer the Egg Nog Latte), but Dilworth Coffee beats it hands down. I just wish IT was open on Sunday by my house.
