So, I've just moved to Charlotte from Atlanta, and I'm feeling quite disconnected from Christian community. The church I came from was a youthful, driven, diverse and friendly place. Since arriving in Charlotte, I've been completely unable to find anywhere with any combination of those qualities and it makes me sad.
Is there anywhere in Charlotte that:
-- Doesn't look like a segregated school from the 60's
-- Has a vibrant community of 20 and 30-somethings
-- Has a more contemporary worship style
-- Is close to uptown Charlotte? (I will drive any reasonable distance if the 1st three are in place though)

I'm taking any suggestions you have. I'm a young, single, professional woman of Jamaican descent. I'm just looking for somewhere I'd fit in. Heck -- If you think we might have something in common, I'm open to meeting new folks too!

look at central church of god. Thats where I go. just google it. they have sermons online, along with the music. All pastor Livningston preaches is Jesus. Very simple message, but one that needs to be preached. You won't find better music in the city, and there is a great mix of people there. As pastor Livingston has stated many of times when he started he prayed to god not to let him pastor an all white church, and his church is far from that.

I think you would like Transformation Church...but it is in Indian Land, SC. Not close to uptown, at all. I would suggest listening to Derwin Grey online if you get a chance. He is great.

One word- Elevation. Look it up. They have a location in uptown. They are everything that you say you are looking for. And you WILL need the earplugs.... :-)

I was thinking the same thing here. I go to Elevation, but I think it is more diverse at Transformation. But Elevation has a decent diversity as well. And the ushers provide free ear plugs if you need them
