Construction of the 19.7-mile Monroe Bypass, which will link eastern Union County with Interstate 485 in Charlotte, could begin in December. The state revealed the apparent winner of a $368 million construction contract Thursday. The toll road will cut travel time 17 minutes, according to projections.

The bias in me likes the idea of the project (because it will relieve congestion in my area), however time will tell whether this will be a success or not.....

Environmental Groups Ask Judge To Halt Monroe Bypass

The groups said the 19-mile bypass would create major air quality issues and more traffic, at a time when the area is already in danger of losing federal highway funding. According to the plaintiffs, officials connected to the project left out important information, didn't correct wrong statements and misled the public.

Wow... 17 minutes. For that kind of money it should cut at least an hour.

The area wont really feel the benefit of the bypass until the independence freeway project is complete.

Default New Bypass through Monroe

Does anyone know if this has begun? Does anyone know where exactly it will run through of 74? I'm looking at homes along there and with so many homes for sale. I'm curious if they are for sale because the bypass will be in their backyard. I am trying to avoid buying a house only to have a bypass down the road or in my yard.
I really don't trust real estate agents no matter what - nothing personal they are simply salespeople who could care less when I'm freaking out with traffic in my yard. I want real people's advice.

The fact that this whole think stops short of 485, yet is so close, is mind boggling. Traffic nearer the "end" of the road will likely be horrible.

Now that you're looking this far out, I'm going to ask a question that I don't remember anyone asked you before. Where is the job located?
