My husband and I are relocating to Charlotte in the spring and need advice on where to live. We are in our mid-30s, will (hopefully) have professional "white collar" jobs uptown, 2 small children, and a large dog that enjoys going on runs with us. We are interested in an area that has excellent schools, is safe to walk/run around and live, and has a real sense of community. Our price range for a house is around $350k.

Thanks in advance for your advice - we appreciate it.

You may want to try Ballentyne and the surrounding area for a home, and quite possibly work. Closer in to the city, you may want to check out the South Park area.
The Charlotte Observer (newspaper) has a great Guide....called Living Here 2011-2012 that you might want to have in your hands....try www.livinghere.com You will be astonished by the amount of information that is in that guide.
When you get here....the best advice I can give you is....get one of those city map books...it works wonders in helping you get to know the city and the streets. If you have a GPS, don't totally rely on it....as it will slow you down in getting to know your new home town.
Another idea would be to get some telephone books. Hey, I know it sounds a bit weird....but you would be surprised how much information you can find in them.
Good Luck with your move.....
