Hello All. My family and I will be moving down there from NH and we have very good friends that moved to Troutman, NC a few years ago.

Do any of you think it is possible to find a town that?:

-is within a 15 min drive to Troutman (Troutman is between Statesville and Mooresville)

-has some sort of mountainous or large hill area or beautiful countryside/scenery

-doesn't have a ton of traffic

-leans politically Democratic or Liberal would be nice, but not a must

-easily able to find homes with at least 1 acre, home under $300K

-great schools (teachers like to work there and are superb people, kids aren't a number)

-has good reputable sports teams (we have 2 little boys)

-is not a bedroom community (which is a town that people just sleep in and don't get involved in the community)

Is this just a dream of mine or is it already there? Any ideas and description of towns would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You're perfectly welcome to move right on back to wherever it is you came from.

OP have you researched Troutman at all? It seems to be a reasonably nice community.

Hi NH, welcome to NC.

I do have a recommendation for a town I hope you will check out - it's not EXACTLY what you are looking for - but is so nice I think you might like it, Taylorsville. It is 25 miles from Troutman but it is not a bedroom community and does have it's own identity. In addition, I have heard nothing but good things about the schools. It is situated in the Brushy Mountains, which are really just 2000 foot high hills, but very scenic. It is predominantly Democrat, but I doubt it would be considered "liberal" - it is after all a small town. It is still affordable to buy property there too. Like I said, it's not a perfect fit for your requirements, but it may come close. You would be hard pressed to find anything with scenic mountainous views closer to Troutman, although the whole countryside up that way around Troutman is very pretty. Hope this helps

Funny how someone dredged up a year old post just to make an unfounded and ridiculous statement about our school system.

Hoagie nailed the best reply in his post!
