UPDATE: It's been two days since my initial contact with Rob McCrae, VP of construction with McCar Homes. I have to admit, it does look like McCar is genuinely concerned about the dissatisfaction of it's homeowners and they want to rectify any and all problem areas. I began my mission two months ago by filing complaints with JD Power, BBB, Chambers of Commerce, all local media (TV and print), and city-data.com. Ironically, Fox news called me yesterday on the complaint I'd filed with them on McCar. I told the reporter the latest news about McCar trying to make things right. The reporter asked me to keep them posted. For all of you living a total nightmare with either McCar Homes, or, any other builder, the ONLY way to get anything done is to voice yourself! Stand up for your investment! After all, your builder would do no less. So, as of today, McCar is in contact with me (and some neighbors from what my neighbors have told me) and they're trying to turn our negative experiences around. Anyone looking at purchasing with McCar, do so with caution. I would recommend at this point you build your home...you just can never know what 'surprises' a spec home holds (we have a spec home). Get private inspections. Stand firm and get everything in writing! A costly mistake I learned the hard way. To anyone else still unhappy with McCar...you can contact Rob McCrae, VP of construction at www.RMccrae@McCarHomes.com ,OR, the owner himself, Keith McSwain @ www.KMCswain@mccarhomes.com. McCar doesn't want to lose buyers. They don't want negative posts. They seem ready to clean their act up and rectify homeowner problems. Let's see if they can earn back our loyalty.

I am so happy I read these posts. My husband and I want to purchase a home in Moss Creek. I will definitely not purchase from McCar homes. Every post almost sounds identical, which is very scary. This sounds like a Class Action Lawsuit to me. Have any of you thought about contacting the media. I would be livid if I purchased a home with such poor quality. I will definitely have to look at other developments. Can anyone recommend any decent builders in Cabarrus County? Thanks for your candid responses!!

Mayjormom---an attorney has been contacted regarding a class action lawsuit. And, the media has been contacted, too. Fox news just called me two days ago. However, we are giving the builder an opportunity to rectify the situation first. I have been through a nightmare...I assure you. But, admittedly, for the first time, it DOES appear McCar is doing something about what's been going on. It's very premature to say that they've resolved all of their problems and are a trustworthy builder. That will simply take time to prove. But, as of today, things may be looking up. Of course, it by no means erases what we went through. Hopefully, though, they'll get their act together and there will be happy homeowners posting positive threads instead of negative ones. One would assume that is their goal....'happy McCar homeowners'. But, sadly, it is unfortunately a new era of home building. They simply don't build homes like they used to. (Not that that gives builders an excuse for sloppiness!) If you search other builders, you'll undoubtedly find complaints on all of them to some degree. It's simply time we hold builders accountable for poor quality work and service. We would expect no less when eating at a restaurant!!! We should expect no less when investing hundreds of thousands of dollars into our homes. Best of luck with your hunt.

Forest Creek
I wish I could say I had the same experience as dsolnmsol, my neighbor, but after the initial email from McCrae and a phone call from Kristen it all went downhill. I received a call from a Perry, which I returned and asked him to call me back, which he never did. A week goes by and who shows up at my door this morning - Perry! I cannot believe that no phone call was made to set up an appointment - just show up. After I brief discussion, which he totally did not look happy about left.
I firmly believe McCar homes picks and chooses who they want to rectify business with. They have left me in the cold! I wish they would just buy back my house and release me from misery. Everyday it seems something either breaks or comes apart. McCar Homes - shame on you!

UPDATE: Well, things are looking up. Addmittedly, I'm in shock. VP of construction with McCar, Rob McCrae, is holding his end of the deal it looks like. As mentioned previously, McCar had graded my lot incorrectly causing a lot of water damage during heavy rains. After 8 attempts at repair, my backyard was left a ridiculous weedy, grassy mess. McCar is rectifying that today with a relandscape. (Albeit, nothing has begun...it's still early in the a.m.!) Just wanting to post my update since it's been a few days. As far as my house goes...well...nothing more has been said other than repeated apologies for my awful experience with problems, subs, customer service, etc. But, I would be remiss if I didn't say that I've been dealing with an employee that has been incredibly kind and respectful. He is the first to treat me like a real person and genuinely seems concerned for our experience. He listens patiently and doesn't brush me off like the many others I've dealt with with McCar. So, as far as customer service goes, it might be coming back around. Anyways, that's the latest. Again, I'll keep anyone interested in McCar Homes posted on what progesses.

UPDATE: Well, surprise surprise. McCar came through. They honored their word and they properly fixed and landscaped my backyard. And, when I mean "properly", let me be specific. 13 palettes of sod, 45 bushes (my neighbor and I share a drainage ditch...they planted these along both sides), and 5 Leyland Cypress Trees. I'd say they very much came through. I am very pleased. That was a big step in the right direction, I have to admit. I am hoping, though, this wasn't just a tactic to 'shut me up'. I am still disappointed in my home buying experience and quality with McCar. But, in my situation, they attempted to at least fix one of the big problems correctly. So, again, I forwarn anyone purchasing with McCar, stay on top of them. Hold them accountable to quality building for your money. And, if all else fails, complain, complain, complain. If you complain enough, they will listen. Best of luck to everyone house hunting.

Anyone dealt with McCar homes?
Kudos to dsolnmsol for not giving up and making McCar accountable. I hope I have the same outcome. I finally got to sit down with Penbrook last week and I must admit I was impressed with his sincerity. It looks McCar will try one more time to get it right and fix my issues from my one year walk-thru (March will make me a 2 yr owner). The one problem I am concerned with is there is a slow leak coming from somewhere possibly the 2nd floor bathroom which is spreading across my familyroom ceiling. I hope then can resolve without too much intrusion.
This is one of my greatest fears, the unknown. After almost two years in this house, it seems like it is falling apart. Leaks, more cracks, subfloor popping. Makes you wonder what happens after five years...

My wife and I are considering a McCar home in the Berewick community in South-West Charlotte. Has anyone heard of any specific issues with this location?
