Default question about HUT/registration

My family and I just relocated to Concord. We did the whole license and registration thing and paid our Highway Use Tax. After all of that we are now thinking of buying a new vehicle. My question is what happens now? I am assuming we will have to pay HUT on the new vehicle but what about what we just paid on the vehicle we may be trading in? This is all very confusing to us and I just would like to get facts straight before hand.

Also, do the dealerships here handle everything with the registration and DMV or is that something you have to do yourself? Do they switch plates from one vehicle to the new vehicle or do you get a temporary tag?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I think you will get some sort of credit on the HUT that you just paid when you register your new vehicle.

The dealer can take care of everything for you and you dont even have to go to the DMV. You should get your new registration card in the mail from the DMV but it takes awhile (mine took about 5 weeks).
