JloveFla-

I moved to NC earlier this year and taught briefly, from Indianapolis to Raleigh. Being a young, AA teacher, I didnt care too much for Raleigh. It was a wonderful place for families and a college town...there was no "city feel"...my thoughts at the time were I should've went to Charlotte instead. I also felt Raleigh was just one big suburbia which is basically in every city except the high rent NE cities, I couldve stayed home for that since the cost of living is cheaper than NC in Indiana. Anyhow, I moved back home abruptly, got a job making more than I was making in NC and I'm back around my family but I know that I am still going to leave for a change. I've now given myself a year or two and will be focusing on Charlotte. I have another friend who left about 4 years ago to Charlotte and loves it. I had no problem reciprocating my IN license to an NC one, as their requirements are the same. My license is K-6. My point being is, good choice for Charlotte, which is where I should've looked in the first place.
FYI...I also met 2 wonderful other ladies who had just moved to Raleigh (one from Cleveland and one from Buffalo, NY) and they too were going to stay in Raleigh a year and then move to Charlotte. They both also taught elementary school.

What is confusing is that when I called NC Department of Education, one person told me that I would not have to take the praxis II, yet when I read the postings on the boards, I keep getting different stories, I have come to believe that it varies on a case by case basis. I will be graduating in December with my Masters in special education with an ESOL endorsement. I plan to apply with NC when I am done with school so that all the paperwork can be processed at one time. I hope to have all the processing completed by the first of the year so I can attend the job fairs, and quickly get a contract. Then I can start apartment hunting. I have been checking the sites of middle schools and high schools; I don't think that I am suited for elementary school, to try and get a feel for the schools. Any information that you can provide would be most welcomed.

So sorry I can't be of any help with your job questions, as I am not a teacher or knowledgable about the school system requirements. If you need info about places to live I would be glad to try to help you there, or to recommend agencies or realtors to help you.

Teach 07,

I can appreciate you sharing your story with me, it takes a lot of planning and a heck of a lot of courage to relocate, go back home, and then try again. I am hoping that things will work out for you and when you move again, it will be a perfect fit for you. I plan to teach at the middle or high school level and maybe work part time at the community college. I will keep you posted on how things work out, and in the mean time if there is something that you need me to check out on my visit this week, just let me know. Thanks for the help

My daugher and one of her roomates moved here from Maryland. (daughter from Owings Mills, and her friend from Laurel. There are several communities that are great for people who like the urban lifestyle as well as surbubia. As with any city there are usually good & bad areas in every town, some moreso than others. You were told right, those three area are nice, but so are several other areas. Smile Ladies wanting to relocate to CHARLOTTE

My story is very similar to yours. I relocated to Charlotte 2 years ago from Florida(12 years in FL) and grew up in New Jersey. I had my license in School Guidance from FL and went through the process of attaining my NC license.

There are lots of great neighborhoods in Charlotte, and each have different things to offer and have their own individual charm. When you are looking to relocate it pays to have information on the neighborhoods and general areas. The more you know before you make a decision of where to buy, the more likely you are to still be happy with your decision a year later.

We are still thrilled with the neighborhood we chose and see ourselves living in our home for many years to come. We had such a great experience moving here that we (my husband and I) decided to become Realtors. We have been in your shoes! If I can help in any way, you can e-mail me at Moderator cut: no adverstising

I think it would be in your best intrest to rent befor purchasing. There's a lot of great areas in Charlotte, however you will not really get a feel of it until you live here for a while. Especially when trying to navigate during rush hour. There's quite a few events that is appropriate for socializing. A good way to get the information on what's happening, is get a my space page. A lot of folks are premoting events, parties meet and greet that way. I always get info that way. There's also a lot of places where folks send out emails, once you place your email info on their listing. Good luck
