Time Warner and Tivo
Anyone out there with TW cable and using Tivo (vs. the Explorer 8000 DVR they lease to you). TW will tell you it won't work, but by law they have to accept any approved device- I have a friend who has it working, however I was wondering if anyone else has success with it. I'm looking at the TiVo® HD DVR.
Anyone having the a media connected home (TV, computers, etc.)

I ditched the DVR service from TW and went back to using Tivo as it is much better.

I took the DVR box to a TW location and they switched it for a regular digital cable box.

Can you still plug an HDMI cable in a regular cable box w/TIVO?

hmm, are you asking if the tivo has a built in cable card (which it does) so you may not need the set top box as it can handle it....what i like about the tivo is that you can network it with your pc and download/upload record shows and other video files to/from it.

We have TIVO and Time Warner and have never had any problems. I would die without my TIVO, and those cable company DVR's are terrible versus Tivo. We've also got everything connected on a network...hubby is an IT guy, so he's into that sort of thing. Like I said, zero problems.

I am curious, why is Tivo so much better than TWC? I don't like TWC and thier phone service sucks, but I have had no issue with the DVR and use it quite often.

The tivo service is just much more user friendly than TWC's. I played around with a friends TW guide, and I was surprised at how bad it was compared to TIVO's.
Tivo rocks!
