Default Relocating from Chattanooga - Need Info. on Schools

We are relocating from Chattanooga to Charlotte at the end of September. We have a seven year old son with ADHD. His hyperactivity and distractability factors are under control quite well, but he still has problems with impulsivity, which at times, creates behavioral issues. His IQ is quite high and he is quite advanced in his studies. He is currently in a Montessori school in Chattanooga that works with him quite well, however I don't know if that's general of most Montessori schools or just the one he attends. We would really like to look at the public schools before venturing into the world of private schooling again. My questions are: 1. Does anyone know how the public schools are in Union County, Mecklenburg County or Irdell County; more specifically in dealing with behavioral issues? 2. Does anyone have a child that has been to one of the ADHD clinics in Charlotte?

Thank you for any advice you can offer.

I have a child with the same issues in Union Co Schools. They were awful to deal with last year but the principal and teacher seemed to been the problem. The horrible principal is gone. New one is way more reasonable. Stay away from teachers with farm animal last names!

There are FREE/public montessori schools in CMS (Charlotte Meck. Schools). Park Road Montessori is the most well respected, at least for grads pre-k-3rd. These schools do deal well with ADHD children, IF you still think Montessori is best. We left our son in mont (he has ADD) through 4th. I think that was a bit long. More strucure, as the work gets a bit harder, seems to be better for him. He can focus with more ease. Montessori created, by its nature, too many distractions...but that was him.

The Catholic schools have a 'fair' reputation for helping ADHD children. Trinity Episcopal has the free movement of montessori and hands on learning, but more structure. I cna't speak on other CMS public schools, but my guess is that you will be able to get a 504 plan and get the services you need.
