Agreed, ENSO is also very good. I was thinking of the OP's location in Waxhaw, as 18 Asian is close by.

Go to Urban spoon.com and you will be able to find out where all ethnic restaurants are and read the comments of those that have eaten there. I use it all the time. You will need to choose Charlotte on the top of the page, then the community. You will then be given a list of some restaurants. When you see the list, underneath you will need to hit "all others" and you will have access to all. A good reliable source where you can get many reviews at one spot.

Talking best around

Asian 18 has become a recent nearby go-to for us (sushi snobs). The rolls are excellent. But I'm sort of happy no one's mentioned Yama, so it remains our little secret for consistently super fresh fish, no gristle, and ice-cold Sapporo. Oops!

Came in to post this.

I also like Niko, Enso, and Pisces is ok, but Ru Sans is my go-to.

Musashi next to Food Lion on Johnston Road has the most authentic experience the excellent sushi. The restaurant is full of Japanese people which tells you it's good.

Ru Sans it the last place I would go for a "date night". I like thier sushi and visit quite often, but vinyl booths and chairs <> romantic.

For a date night, try Pisces Sushi in the Metropolitan development in Midtown. Great sushi, much more intimate setting. perfect for a date night.

I eat a LOT of sushi. I usually treat myself to Rusan's after I give blood at the Red Cross across the street. But if I want the best in Charlotte, I go to Mai on Colony Road. By far the best in Charlotte. I like Sushi 101, Koishi and Pisces but when I really crave good, fresh sushi, Mai never disappoints.

I have to recommend one that has not been mentioned.
Cute little date place with GREAT sushi, always fresh, good service, nice atmosphere .........Wild East in Pineville Carmel Road http://wildeast-bistro.com
We discovered this place about three months before they had a fire a while back and had to shut down because of damage. We thought we lost a new find. HAPPY to say they are back in business and still the same.
To be honest they have other things on the menu but we've only ever had appetizers, sushi and sashimi (the octopus is delicious) You'll get another special menu for sushi when you dine in so there is more to choose from and we've even requested to have them make us something special.

I agree with InsouthPark. I would not recommend Ru Sans but, I'm not a fan of buffets in general where it's more about quanity vs. quality.

Yama near South Park Mall is the best I've had in town... great for a date night.
