We live in Waxhaw but are willing to drive for some good sushi on date night. Where should we go? Don't tell me Niko because I have been and not too impressed!

Not much other than a good variety of fresh fish/sushi options, an intimate setting perhaps. No cheesy owner's wife walking around doing karoake while I am trying to eat. It's more of a meat market type atmosphere in Niko and we don't need that. We are down to earth people looking for a good place. Simple.
Wang and King Asian Cafe in the corner of South Tryon and Carowinds Blvd behind the Jack in the Box. Delicious sushi, really fresh ingredients...i think they have at least 30 different types of rolls, anything from the basic California Rolls to Super Red Dragon.

Thanks for any suggestions!
Agreed, Nikko is overrated. Not a big fan of Sushi 101 either. We really like 18 Asian in Blakeney Crossing. It's the same owners as Jade in Ballantyne, but specialty rolls are a bit different. I recommend the Tsunami Roll, Sweet 18 roll and the Charlie Roll. They also have good pad thai, and the steamed gyoza appetizer is awesome. Wow - rereading this I sound like an advertisement and/or the owner. We eat there at least every couple weeks, so perhaps we should buy an ownership stake!
ENSO in the epicentre. Great atmosphere, you can park a little ways away and have a nice walk to and from the resteraunt. You can make it a great date night
