Default Quickest Driving Route to Charlottesville,VA

Hi,

Im heading up to Charlottesville for the long Weekend, and looking to get some input on the quickest way to go... Mapquest told us to take 85 to 29 the last time and it took forever, since we kept going through small towns with stop-lights, slower speedlimits, etc.

Anyone who has done this drive that has a recommendation would be appreciated!!!

You could go 85 to 95 to 64, but I'd go with Mapquest's directions. It's a beautiful drive, and actually pretty quick. I go that way to go to DC.

normally I would go 77N to 81N to 64W but with the holiday traffic, you may be better off doing the 85 to 29 route

I 85 to I 29 is the quickest route to Charlottesville, even with the red lights around Greensboro and Lynchburg.

Why is it faster than 77 to 81, or 85 to 95?

Thanks.

Not sure it is If for no other reason than a more pleasant ride with better scenery, I would go the 77 to 81 route myself.
