Default union county schools

We are looking to relocate to Union County. We have done alot of research on elementary schools and so far we have heard great reviews on Sandy Ridge, Weddington and Marvin. Can anyone tell me their opinion??? Also, does anyone know of any neighborhoods that feed into these schools. We would like to stay under 400K. Thanks!

Weddington and Marvin are two different attendance zones. There is a lot of variety in pricing in these areas. All the best in your search.

Both attendance zones have four elementary schools providing services.

This link provides color coded attendance maps.

The link below provides school assignment information for a specific address.

Be aware that the assignment zones will shift again sometime around 2010 with the addition of a 3rd middle school and high school campus.

Ncmomoftwo: I remember reading in the Observer sometime ago that the UCPS BOE was set to award a contract to a builder for a project off Cuthbertson Road.

It would seem that NC-16 would be a logical dividing line when this new campus opens in a couple of years.

How are the new schools?

That map would be interesting to see with 10 new buildings coming online in the next few years.

Welcome, Twins+1. Schools in Union County is a topic that you will find a lot of information about on this site. There are a million different opinions regarding the schools, as each person has their own personal preferences for each different school. When we came here last spring, I went by what a few people said here on the forum and also by their test scores when selecting our area of preference. Having done and said that, what I have now found to be true about all of the schools out here in UC is that they are all very different and I don't think the reviews on the greatschools.net etc. is a good gauge for judging them. Because the schools are so varied I highly recommend that you spend a little time in each one. You may not be able to "Tour" each individual school and sit in on classes, but you should definitely have a conversation with each principal about what their philosophies are and what the teaching styles are in each school. The curiculum varies from school to school as well. The school that my children were at last year was vastly different from the school they are attending this year (we like this one better....just for the record) but many people prefer the other one. The principals are largely responsible for assembling the staff and creating the atmosphere for each school. You really need to find one that has a philosophy that gels with your own personal preference. You'll find a bunch of posts where I have stated this same thing but it really is true. .....all of the schools are sooo different.
You are in a great price range for houses. In fact...with three kids you'd fit in great in my neighborhood so I will shamelessly give a little plug as we are trying very hard to recruit great new neighbors to join us in our little utopia out here. Good luck and please feel free to PM me if I can answer any specific questions about schools.
