Just found out once I move to NC my NY drivers license cant be changed over until I take a written test are you kidding me!!! can anyone tell me about the test? Easy, tough what am I in for?? thanks for any feed back
It's a basic written test, you have to get 25 questions correct. Read over the handbook and skip any question that you are not sure about, it will give you a different one. Once you scored correctly, you get your license.
As someone said before, it is basic knowledge. But, when I was there, I was surprised at the people from out of state that failed. At least know the basics, ie. signs, turning distances, drinking laws, etc.
I just took the test on Friday & it is written terribly! Many of the questions have 2 or 3 answers that are all correct, but you have to pick the one that is the "best" answer. I passed, but recommend the study guide questions at AAA Driving School LLC and picking up one of the street sign guides on the front counter at the DMV.
If you can't pass the written test, you definitely should not be driving. Our requirements for obtaining a drivers license are as simple as they could be, short of not having to take any tests at all. Having a license gives you the right (not necessarily the ability) to drive two tons of machinery at high speeds. That really is a lot of responsibility, and a couple tests to allow for that isn't asking much at all.
I skimmed over the written test last year when I thought I might have to take it to renew my license. With a couple exceptions, the questions are straightforward. I don't understand the comment about many questions having multiple answers.

I agree lots of signs...but it wasn't that bad and yes written teat but given by computer
When we moved here I went to get my license without knowing there was a test. I didn't miss a single question. It is all common driving knowledge, and very, very easy. If you find it difficult or you fail, you most definitely should not be on the road.
Why not have your cell phone with you and have someone with the book text you the answers. After all texting is directly related to driving a car is it not? lol
