I moved to Lake Norman and all the women in my neighhborhood are skinny. Seriously they are all size 2's, 4's and 6's. I asked another neighbor who might the be an 8 and she said they've all had tummy tucks and boob jobs. Seriously, how do they do it? They all have kids and some work.
Most people who tend to live near water, are very much into fitness. Even if they had their tummy and boobs done, they probably always put their health first. Hence the reason they take pride in their looks.

Alternatively, they live near water, therefore it's expensive, therefore they've married rich, therefore they need to maintain their trophy wife status, therefore they work out, have boob jobs & tummy tucks. Take your pick.
People educated in nutrition take better care of their health and that results in a slim body.
Most likely they are very selective on what food they eat (stay away from "enhanced" food) and exercise in regular basis.
"Mens sana in corpore sano" translates from Latin as "a healthy mind in a healthy body".
The Charlotte area as a whole is about nothing if not keeping up with the Joneses and I imagine even more so in the lake communities.
So if the "Real Housewives of Lake Norman" are a size 2....
Please, please don't tell me that! We are relocating next month and I am so not a keeping up with the joneses type person. I hope my "real" vibe I put out there will keep those types at bay. Besides, the circles I hang around wouldn't appeal to those types (volunteering at animal shelters, charlotte film society, knitting groups, etc.).
We live in Lake Norman and since I married a red head, we spend no time on the water :-). He burns to a crisp in 10 seconds. Ha. As long as you get involved in the things you listed above (sewing, volunteering, etc...), you'll find "normal" people. I've found the best girlfriends of my life in Charlotte, and only one is what I would call "skinny". :-).
