eestewar, we live in the Cunane section of Cureton which is in Waxhaw and we love it. Cunane is a local builder here in Charlotte and they have several award winning communities but only a small section in Cureton. There are several houses for sale in the $350-$415,000 range right now and all are really nice homes. Schools are Kensington Elementary, Cuthbertson Middle & High Schools. Almost every house in this section has parents in their 30-'s-40's with kids in one of the 3 schools. Here is a link to Cunane(the builder site) so you can see some of their homes. Cunnane Group Inc. - Home Builders in Charlotte NC, Cunnane Group, Inc, New Home Builder of Traditional Style Neighborhoods in Charlotte, Cornelius, Fort Mill, Wake Forest, NC, SC, New Homes, New Construction, Home Builder. Cureton also has a very large neighborhood pool with a HUGE waterslide. We have been very happy here.
On another note, the big differences associated with middle school sports are because they are run by booster organizations (except basketball) and have very loose if any official ties to the schools the students attend. The high schools control most of their sports internally and conform system wide. One of the glaring exceptions is Lacrosse, it is still a booster club sponsored sport at the high school level in Union County. I wish that would change and level the playing field between the schools.
I was talking about high school sports and there are definite difference in the quality of play between the high schools in Union County. I don't think the playing field will ever be level. While I am glad we picked where we did, as she can play and practice at a more competitive level that she would at all but one school we play against, and it isn't in lacrosse.

I should think there would be differences in the quality of play between Union County High schools. They range from 1A (CATA and MONROE to 4A size (Sun Valley and Porter Ridge).

I am so confused about the sports in the middle & high school. We are considering relocating to NC and my 3 boys are passionate about football. I am researching with this in mind. Of course academics come first, but it is also important to belong to a school who is just as passionate about their athletics programs. Any thoughts??

well in football there are more good quality programs to pick from.
Union county for example has good football programs at many schools including Porter Ridge, Marvin Ridge, Weddington, etc.
At most of these school they do have a 6th grade football here (at least MR and Weddington do I would have to double check Porter Ridge), so you can play football in 6th, all the way up. At the high school level it becomes JV and Varsity, I believe both teams for high school were no cut for jv and varsity. They all seem to have a good program and the teams are rather competitive. Many schools continue on to play in the regional and or state finals in football.

Are they passionate about other sports too, meaning some of the football kids, wrestle too or some even play lacrosse, then the option many need to be different. If it's only football your options are in my opinion more open. So if this is the case you can be directed differently to look at certain schools to focus in on two sports.

Some schools in Union County are 3A and some are 4A so we there is some of the bigger schools have better teams thing going on. I know Cuthbertson is 3A, Marvin Ridge is 4A. Anyway, I hope this helped some if you have more question ask away.

When is your move? And what schools are you looking in to?
