Thinking about taking our young cousin to see the symphony tomorrow at Southpark. I'm still debating if whitewater would be more fun for him but I don't want to drive up there and I'm not sure how the traffic will be. Southwark is 10 minutes from the house and we can bring food and drinks Whitewater doesn't let you bring food or drinks so I think it could get a little expensive. anyone been to both and have a preference? Do they have fireworks at southpark?

LOVE LOVE the celebration at South Park. It is very family friendly with an exceptionally well-behaved crowd. GO, you'll love it

Oh, and yes, there are wonderful fireworks.

Adults have to pay $10, but kids under 18 are free.

Thanks. I think we are going to do Southwark due to convenience and cost. I doubt he has seen a symphony and he loves music. One more question... do they set off fireworks while the symphony is playing?

Oh yeah! They'll be playing the 1812 Overture for the big finale

I was thinking about the whitewater center too, but this makes the southpark ones tempting too. I think I am equal distance from both. Can anyone comment on whitewaters experience? to compare?

The WWC is much, much better than the Southpark celebration. The fireworks are larger and go on for much longer, and there's more to do and see. You won't get any crap for bringing in your own stuff, just don't bring a cooler of beer. We always bring our own sandwiches, snacks and water and make sure to buy a frozen lemonade or a couple of beers. We have a pass to park, but if you don't it's only $5.

interesting... WWC made it sound like outside food or drinks are prohibited at this event. That's one of the reason's I decided not to do it.

Dang.. now I have to reconsider in the next 2 hours. Still leaning towards Southpark but the WWC is tempting.

Im not sure. I can't remember what time we have gone in the past, but it gets pretty crowded. You may have to walk quite a bit from the car, but there should still be plenty of spots for blankets/chairs. There were rafters out until dark last year, so good people watching.
