Hello, I am moving from Seattle area to the Charlotte area in a few months, I am relocating for my company, I know its going to be a lot different, for me there are good and bad things about leaving, but I want to make the best of it!
My questions are this, I really don't want to live near crime, I can afford up to 850 mo for rent, I would eventually like to buy a few private acres and build on it, where are some nice neighbors hoods with low crime and decent housing prices? My shop will be in charlotte so id like to stay within 30 min drive.
I really like fishing, I fish a lot of salmon and crab up here, what can I catch over there? Also want to know if I can go omewhere and alligator hunt? Even like a guided tour, do they have things like that or would I have to go further south?
Do a lot of houses have swimming pools over there? It rains alot In seattle and it will be nice to see a lot of sun again

Welcome to NC - you are sure to enjoy the "Carolina blue skies" after living in Seattle
Hunting alligators in NC is illegal, as the population is not large and at one time was almost extinct.
You may find some hunting in SC, but I'm just not sure about there either.
There is not much great fishing in the immediate Charlotte area - though one of the big bass tournaments is held at nearby Lake Wylie every year.

You can find a one bedroom apt in your price range in many nice areas, but you need to give a better job location in order for folks to make the best recommendations. Saying "within 30 minutes of Charlotte" doesn't give us enough to go on

We have lots of fishing in nearby Lake Norman. You're just not supposed to eat em. I have friends that hunt gators in Florida. They sent me some pictures but they are too graphic to post!
Charlotte neighborhoods aren't overrun with pools. Sure many houses have them, but not like they do in FL. Most apartment pools, public, private pools and waterparks open Memorial Day weekend and close after Labor Day week.
BTW, I have a couple friends who were born and raised in Seattle. A great city Seattle is, I love it personally. But whenever they travel to Charlotte, they just eat up the hot sun, loving every second of it. It may be a heat you will have to adapt to. With the humid summer months, it can take some getting use to.
I used to live in Charlotte and my grandkids live in Seattle where I have visited quite a lot and love it. In Florida now ( they do alligater hunt here) there is way toooo many of them. The "University " area of Charlotte has nice homes and plenty of shopping. It is about 20 minutes north east and 20 minute drive downtown. South Charlotte is more ritzy ( It seemed every other car was a BMW or Mercedes. Due to the banking industry being there downtown is very nice- new towering buildings impressive to see, however people don't live down there so it has to be the " burbs". I loved it there but you better leqarn to say " ya'll " VERY different than Seattle but it is a much smaller city. Ther are lots of homes on Lake Norman just outside of Charlotte w/a manmade lake that is built around a huge power plant--go figure. They do fish and boat there. Hope this helps some. The weather is gorgeous. Better than Florida actually. It has season changes that we do not .
Grammy, just needed to correct something you wrote. . . Lake Norman was not "built around a power plant." Lake Norman exists precisely b/c of our nuclear power plant. There would be no lake if there were no power plant. The land was flooded so we could create that power facility. There was very little housing, and certainly none of the upscale developments along the lake, even 25 years ago.
Also, Charlotte has more newcomers than natives so hearing any Southern dialect while inside Charlotte city limits is not that common these days.

Sorry, I do agree that the southern dialect is not hear too much there these days as more people move in. Still a nice modern city that I remember fondly.
As I'm getting closer to moving there I'm getting excited, I know I will miss seattle for certain things, but I think after I get settled I will love it, housing is waaaaay cheaper, there's gr eat offshore fishing, and there's this thing they call "sun" over there, I veaguley remember this but I belive I like it. My girlfriend is getting her CNA before she comes out there, hopefully she can find a decent job..
I wll miss having nice resort style casinos near me, and the MJ laws in seattle are great, and I will definatly have to adjust to the summer heat, but I'm looking forward to NC, hopefully I can find some cool people to hang out with and I'll be just fine
