The mother is making less of this than she should be. Your child brought fake marijuana to school. He deserves a strict punishment, so next time it isnt the real thing.
1) He did not bring "bring fake MJ to school"! He brought oregano to class. Have faith in the rule of law under which we live. Due deligence, my fellow American is important.

2) How did you come to the Solomonesque decision that "30 days" not 55 fits the judgement to the crime? Am I missing something in the school rule book?

How do you know he JUST brought oregano to class? To do what with? To Pretened is was MJ, which should be a suspension.

I dont feel any child should msis 55 days of school, but the punishment should be severe enough that he actually think twice before doing that again.

ETA: Are the parents here suggesting that they wouldn't be upset with their child? Would you be the parent to argue that the school was wrong in punishing this kid?

1) we only know what was printed in the news and what is on the net
2)what makes you think "punishment" will make him "think twice' and BTW maybe this is not "punishment for this boy ?
3)I certainly would take a position on the school's remedy bc I think it's wrong.

1. Because it was NOT Pot.....it was a PRANK.
2. Maybe I missed it but I did not see where in the article it said that he was attempting to sell it.

So you would be ok with your child pulling a prank where they yank the fire alarm or bring oregano in place of MJ to school? Both those offenses deserve a suspension, maybe Internal suspension if nothing else.

No one should be judging the punishment since they don't have all the facts in the case.

Fifty-five days suspension? Really? I'm not good with math, but that's 10 weeks or until the middle of May. Alternative school or not, that seems a little over the top.

Yes, we don't and won't know ALL the facts until this one winds up in the courts OR until the school system pays the mother and her offspring. The settlement would come with a gag provision.

Sometimes, I think common sense has been thrown out the window. Then, that's what we get in the government schools. We once had a teacher try to get our daughter suspended because she overheard our daughter uttered a four letter word for feces in a moment of frustration working with a group of her peers. The principal HAD to call my wife to go through the motions on behalf of the teacher. Conversation lasted 30-45 seconds. The apologetic Principal used common sense - unlike the teacher.

and equally important is innuendo! It's a silent killer. Like the poster that laid out the innuendo "I won't say anything bc I know the family (hehehaha)" (my para phasing)

You're going to have to learn to stick to a point in a debate:

Pulling a fire alarm is AGAINST the law. It's called "false alarm" and is punishable with a fine and possible time in the can.

Bringing good quality Italian oregano to sprinle on my pizza is NOT against the law.
