My first suggestion would be to check on the IRS website and see if you can find the answer to your question. Or, there is an 800 number IRS provides to answer questions (long wait times but maybe this would get you the right answer to your question).

My gut reaction to your question would be that you are still married, so you would file as "married, filing separately" or "married, filing separately as head of household." But I am certainly no expert on the subject.

I knew somebody that went through something similiar.

With no children involved they had the choice of either, filing married joint or married filing separately.

Usually if couple are not communciating very well, it is recommended for each party to file married filing separately and each is responsible for their own taxes.
