I am considering relocating to Mooresville, I have been there a few times and have friends in the area. I like what I see however I am wondering what accounts for the crime rate being above the national average and almost 3x higher than where I currently live. Any insight would be appreciated.

Where are you getting those stats? Let's start there and maybe we can help. Mooresville is a great area, for schools as well as nice neighborhoods.

Can't locate that info right now . . . but the crime stats for Mooresville will be lower than most places in NC, certainly lower than most places in the USA.

The overall crime rate for 2010 according to the following source is 64 (on a scale of 100, wh/ would represent the national average).

I seriously doubt Mooresville would have a crime index 3 x Monmouth County, NJ. ????

That link also states: We encourage you to consult with a knowledgeable local real estate agent or contact the local police department for any additional information.

I haven't heard of any murders in the Mooresville 28115/28117. I think they found a dead body on 150 last year sometime, not sure what that was all about. There are B&E's, disputes/assaults, shoplifting, DUI's, various drug charges, vandalisim, etc... but you have that anywhere in the USA. Just not so much in Mooresville. You can always contact the local PD to get real info on what's happening in Mooresville. Go to the horse's mouth, that's what we did when we moved from NY & my husband was in law enforcement for 29 yrs.

For a city of it's size, I feel very safe anywhere in the city. Listen to the people that live here.

The insight is simply that it IS above the national average. Most all of the Charlotte
metro is. However Mooresville is safer than most areas here.
