They get more people trying to sign up than they can handle. If you scoff at $500, someone else will willing, and happily, pay it for a place to shoot that isn't crawling with morons who will flag the entire firing line or shoot while the range is cold, etc.

I'd pay that amount in a heartbeat if I had it to spend on a range membership.

And it will take about an hour and some change to get there. Shoot em a PM if you want to go one day. I'll drive so you won't get all turned around. It's easy to do the first time.
Is that where we went? That was a lot of fun. I was a natural

Certainly people will pay it. People will pay it when they raise the fee to $600.00, $700.00, etc..

My beef with them is that they increased the price(by $250.00), when dozens of people already paid the deposit and started the membership process. Myself included. Most people complained, their holier-than-thou ranking members could care less if we complained. Their answer was, too bad, pay the additional fee or leave. Half the class being processed, grabbed their stuff and left. The others stood their with their tails between their knees.

I'm sure they didn't lose any money by us walking out, but you have to stand for some things in life.

These will probably be about an hours drive for OP, but thought I'd throw them out there for others too.

1)

Pappys Gun Shop (they have a website)
4955 Tinker Creek Road
Edgemoor, SC

***The owner is a great guy. You don't get the usual gun shop attitude at his place. He is a real gentlemen, with lots of great stories(not long and boring). If your having a problem with your gun, they are happy to offer their advice on the range.

2)

Efirds Rifle Range
20766 Saint Martin Road #C
Albemarle, NC 28001

This one I have not been to yet. It is members only, at $175.00 a year. If you google the name, look for someone who posted a review on the carolina shooters forum. He gave pretty detailed info, with picture.
