County Animal Control Supervisor Tripp Bowling says Davis had become convinced his dog had been poisoned. Bowling says the man buried the German shepherd mix's head in a shallow hole and packed its nose and mouth with dirt.

It sounds as if he were attempting to euthenize the dog himself, via suffocation, after it seemed the dog had ingested a fatal substance and become motionless. Very ignorant and inexcusable to say the least, but I would think there is a little more to the story than the headline would lead you to believe.

This happened somewhere out in the country, since the city police were not involved. Apparently the man didn't have a gun to put the dog down. I don't know why he would do such a thing. If he didn't have money for a vet, he should have asked someone with a gun to put the dog down.
