Where does everyone buy their birthday cakes from? Harris Teater? About how much do they cost? Also, are cupcakes cheaper?

Thanks!

What size are you looking for, a designed 1/2 sheet cake is around $20 at Wal-mart.

Cup cake cakes are usually a little more expensive, lately I have found the wal-mart cakes to be better than HT.

It depends who you are serving. If it's a kid's birthday party, cupcakes are a lot easier to serve. Those teeny little "one bite" cupcakes are perfect for little kid's parties both at home and at school. Grown ups tend to prefer sheet cake. I must be a child at heart, as I prefer a cupcake!

I bought a 1/2 sheet cake with whipped cream frosting - yum! - at HT for $30. Cake was incredibly moist and the frosting wasn't too sugary. Don't know if they offer custom cupcakes. The pre-made ones in the cooler are underwhelming.

Instead of visiting wm or a big box, try visiting a small local bakery. The price may be the same or a bit higher but the quality will be so much better and you would be helping the local economy. If I knew your side of town, I could post some rec's.
