Hello everyone
My husband is in the casino industry and we are looking to re-locate...eventually. Just wondering if anything casino related is set to build near the Charlotte area or if anything exists near there. The only thing I could find on NC casinos was in the Cherokee area which is 3 hours away from what looks to be a fantastic place to raise a family. We have two toddlers, so any info on the area would be most appreciated.

The Catawbas have applied to build a casino at Exit 5 of I 85, just outside of Kings Mountain.

You can find more information on Cherokee, NC in the Western NC forum. It is not commutable to the Charlotte area, and is probably more isolated than you want.

Any idea if the Kings Mountain proposal will succeed and how far in the future it is? There are "anti" forces gathering already: StopCatawbaCasino - Media

They are talking 5000 jobs on 40 acres in Cleveland County. Here is the most recent article on the proposed casino: Catawba Indian Nation pushes for $600M casino in Kings Mountain | www.wsoctv.com

McCrory could have signed approval & it would be up & running by now. He's not that interested in jobs because he & other lawmakers are taking money from the Cherokee to keep other tribes out. I've posted links to prove that in the past but I'm using a phone right now. If you doubt me just google the Shelby Star then search for casino. It's in one of the earlier articles or search this board. I've posted links to it at least twice.

It's 4,000 jobs directly tied to the casino & other facilities on that land.

I'm also quite well aware of the outsiders from DC who are coming in here & stirring up trouble. I have reason to believe that they are importing people to the area. I didn't see any reason to drag that up to answer the OP's question. Since you live at the coast, & I live in Kings Mountain, is there a reason for you dragging it up?

Thank you for your contributions to the issue. I was just trying to help by give the OP a perspective on whether it was possible for the husband to find a job in a casino near Charlotte. It sounds very unlikely in the near future.

I also follow the issue of whether the Lumbees would every gain Federal recognition. It seems even less likely they would every build a casino.

A lot of tribes don't have federal recognition for various reasons.

I didn't give any indication of the likelyhood of a casino in the near future because I hear rumors almost weekly. I've also been jumped by 2 recently arrived women who are trying to find jobs who thought it was a good idea to start quoting scripture at me & promising hell-fire & damnation as well as the mob when I said that jobs would be much easier to find if the casino was approved. Someone is sending these people into this area to stir up trouble. The natives are well aware that the jobs are needed & they're smart enough to know that if casinos don't fit their religious views they don't have to go.

If you go by the rumors that I have heard the truth lies somewhere between the casino never coming & an approval next month. That's not very helpful to the OP.

Default Thanks for the info

Did not mean to start up anything negative. I wish my husband would seek employment in another field, but this is what he has an extensive background in...and did I mention he actually loves his job?
We do not move around a lot! Believe me we have been in our area over 20 years.
I was in the industry as well for over 20 years too, and now after many years have kiddos.
Speaking of kids...I kid around about how I went from the boardroom to the laundry room
Guess I will have to search the west as you suggested or the many many other states that have embraced (willing or not) this industry. It is all a crap shoot pun intended so hoping I can get the good job and good neighborhood combo most of us desire. Thanks and I appreciate the replies.

I guess this will not be happening just yet, but how bizarre I just saw it after I posted.

I'd suggest that you check on it monthly. I can't give you any better information, unfortunately. I did not intend to drag out the dirty laundry. The majority of residents around Kings Mountain want the casino. Outsiders are stirring the pot in real life as well as in this thread.
