We have an offer on our house and will be moving very soon. We have been focusing on Union Co. the last 6 months and have ignored other fine areas. We did not look anywhere in Meck Co. because we heard the schools were hit or miss and taxes were higher. Before we commit to Union I would like to hear about the schools in the areas, the great, the good and the not so good. I dont think we would have any buyer remorse in Union, we just want to purchase in confidence. We are in the 425K-525K range and like 4 sided brick with about a half acre so any communities suggestions are welcome but schools are more important. Thanks
I think you're wise to cover all your bases. You may have to deal with infrastructure challenges over the next few years in Union County, including changes and overcrowding in the schools, so you're best to go in knowing you made an informed choice.
Check out Providence Plantation (although I guess that's technically area 4). Right in your price range, beautiful wooded lots, gorgeous homes, and some of the most highly regarded schools in Char-Meck.
Allen Tate Family of Companies (http://www.allentate.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?pageid=11&pagealias=ListingDet ail&ListingID=1048718&ListingPosition=7&From=Quick Search - broken link)
In area 5, don't forget Piper Glen: Allen Tate Family of Companies (http://www.allentate.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?pageid=11&pagealias=ListingDet ail&ListingID=1038220&ListingPosition=3&From=Full - broken link)
There are some lovely existing homes with great schools that are already supported by existing infrastructure. If you ask others, the school assignment for Providence Plantation is "better" than that for Piper Glen, but my daughter used to go to the school Piper Glen is zoned for (McAlpine) and we loved it.
Good luck with your decision and your home sale!

Reason: Diversity of listing sources

Schools are not so hit and miss in Mecklenburg county, and in south Charlotte they are pretty good. The quickest way for you to get a run down on what you have missed by not looking here is to have your realtor send you listings in your price range that have Providence High School or Ardry Kell High School as their assigned schools. Even if you don't need a high school yet, being in one of those neighborhoods gives you great schools at all levels. Good luck.

? is there a need to do more shopping when the offer is already done and ready to move in. it is a bit too late to search the new areas in the 11th hour and start comparing. it is going to be a never ending issue as new ones will always be propping up for comparision.
there will always be someone or the other who will advice bad about your decision or good about something else.
if you are already committed, the time spent to look at new areas is mute at this point.
if i were you, i would concentrate on the already submitted offer
I think the OP meant that there is an offer on their current home and they haven't found a new house yet.
