I know when a person is out of work it's hard to keep a positive outlook...
But I also know swimming in a pool of negativity will not get you a job or improve your situation. I'm not saying ignore reality but people need to turn off the talk radio, stop hanging around people who are negative and try to rub elbows with people who have jobs.
I just bought a home in a bad market... and I got a steal of a deal.
4.25 APR!
Next up is starting my own business. Why not? People need jobs.
Congrats, Felt.
And I do agree - best to tie into others with positive energy.
I think some of the posters, tho, were talking about making the decision to move here, as opposed to anywhere else, in search of jobs.
Felt, you go for it with the job creation! Entrepreneurship is the foundation of this country. Folks need to create their own work, even if it is only to have it as a sideline job.

My spouse owns a business that's been doing well. So the decision was made to expand the business by hiring a person full time to help out. He wanted to also offer up some healthcare benefits and retirement. Nice benefits in these days & times.
Good gawd what a pain the government has turned this into. By the time you deal with all the rules and regulations on FICA, new health care reform rules, retirement benefit restrictions, tax reporting, withholding requirements, it goes on and on, you also end up hiring a lawyer and an accountant because there is no way a normal person can deal with it in a legal manner. Calling the government on how to deal with whatever is usually a waste of time. He is providing a person with a full time position being paid a good wage and benefits, but he said if he knew then what he knows now, he might not have gone through with it.
IMO, its the government that is holding things back and one of the reasons it's so hard to make things better. Everything is geared for the large corporations. For the small guy it's an uphill battle all the way.

Those working can really help the economy and jobs market with buying items and services only made or offered in the USA. Heck, you might even live longer knowing that consumable production here has regulatory controls (FDA).
I wonder if things are improving, or if they just seem less severe because we have all got used to what is happening. I think it's the later of the two.
I'd like to go back and find some of the posts saying how pessimistic people were for saying "don't move here without a job lined up." I bet those would be interesting.
Most of the job listings I've seen are posted by recruiters, with very few from the employers themselves. Many job postings by recruiters are illusive, and aren't even for specific job openings; rather they are just to collect candidates' resumes to pad the recruiter's book of inventory.

Listen, we have been trying to hire a technician for our company for over 2 months now and everyone that applies is crap. Just simply, the work history for each person is always horrible and they don't appear to have good judgement at all.
If I had been out of work for months, I think I would have figured out how to create a decent resume and type a cover letter... just saying.
Not everyone out there is an expert at writing a resume. What one potential employer wants to see and what another wants to see are often two entirely different things. And if everyone who applies is crap, maybe someone should step back and ask why you are receiving that caliber of applicant.
And just because you can't seem to give a job away doesn't mean other people can get one. I was out of work for 2 years and couldn't find a job for numerous reasons. Unrealistic expectations of certifications and education, distance from home, etc. Why on Earth would I need to have CPO and HVAC certifications to be a leasing manager? How many leasing managers are out working on pools and HVAC systems? One company wanted over 5 years of experience and then said I had too much experience.
