Somehow I missed this. You must be certain that I'm an idiot. Of course all jobs have qualifications & requirements. I never said otherwise.
Older woprkers are poison in the current economy. It's been well documented that if you are 50+, no one wants you.
It's okay. I definitely do not think you are an idiot. I was responding to what you said to Tober. The fact that the position is technical in nature has nothing to do with the experience issue.
Neither of us can control the world we live in... I understand what you are saying and hate that you have not been given a fair chance when compared to your colleagues. It is unfortunately true that many will not get an opportunity simply because of preconceived notions.
When hiring, there is simply not enough time to give everyone the benefit of the doubt.
And I'm not saying that many companies do not want workers over 50; I'm just saying that I don't agree that they are poison. I feel that they add value and have a lot to offer.

Best of luck to you in your journey.
I know what industry Tober works in. I was mearly letting him know that this was not an office job.
Just for the record, most of my tech experience was as a broadcast tech, dating back far enough for it to have been perfectly legal for a supervisor to tell me. "You seem like a nice girl. Nice girls don't do men's jobs. They stay home & have babies."
When I thought about HVAC it occurred to me that not only would I be facing potential attitudes from employers & co-workers, it would be perfectly legal for customers to go off on me. Been there, done that.
You might want to file your opening with the state. You can tell them exactly what you want from prospective employees & they will post the opening without your ID & tell each person, individually, to send a proper resume, etc. Good luck on that.

That is a valid point.
I will readily admit that when I speak about jobs / hiring / the workplace, etc., it is based on my experience in the corporate sector. And my personal experience may not be as applicable to other types of positions / jobs.

Some basics are the same, Tober, but there are some big differences for a tech, & that will vary by employer & industry, as well as whether it is high tech or low tech. A good tech shows up on day one with a couple of pens & a small notebook.
If you read the comments of that topic, you notice that he got them mostly wrong. They are over inflated. Anyone can go to BLS.gov and get the numbers for any city, county and metro in the USA. You can use any time period for the information as well.
The truth is that it is tough everywhere, not just in Charlotte, I find it better here than other places I've lived in like New Jersey or Arkansas.
That's the fact.
When I moved to Northern Alabama in 2008 unemployment in Madison county was just below 4%.
Now, its reported to be around 11%, but I think its probably higher.
