Recommended subdivisions near Matthews
Hi all,
Husband and I will be moving down to NC in the next 6-8 months, and are looking to settled down in Matthews, or somewhere no more than a 10-20 minute drive from there. Would anyone be able to give us some ideas for specific subdivisions to look for in that range near Matthews?
Here is what we are looking for:
Homes in the $110,000-$150,000 range
"family" areas- a fair amount of kids
Good school district
We have relatives in Matthews, which is why that it kind of a base location, but have looked into Indian Trail, Mint Hill, Monroe, etc... Would probably want to head east of Matthews rather than closer to Charlotte, if possible.
Thanks to all for some first-hand knowledge of the area!
Jenny

Since this is pretty much the criteria we had when we were looking, I can make a few suggestions. In this price range your choice for schools is a bit limited, the best option near Matthews that I found were houses zoned for Crown Point and Mint Hill Middle, they all seem also to be zoned for East Mecklenburg High, which greatschools.net doesn't give a very good rating for, but that's a long way off for us, so we decided we'd deal with it when we got there. The neighborhoods we pretty much focused on that met our criteria (prices up to $150K, good schools, nice neighborhoods):
Habersham
Suburban Woods
Olde Creek
Ashley Farms
Forest Ridge
Forest Park
Wood Hollow
We also liked Callaway Forest, Callaway Plantation, and Glenwood Manor, but they're zoned for Piney Grove Elementary, which just wasn't one of my top choices for schools.
If you go to Charlotte NC real estate, Charlotte NC homes for sale, Relocating to Charlotte NC and pick area 3, there's a place where you can search just by subdivision.
HTH and if you have any questions, feel free to PM me, we're in the process of buying a house in Habersham right now so it's all very fresh in my mind, lol.

My husband and I are in the process of buying a home in Glenwood Manor subdivision. We are moving from Virginia and buying our first home. We really want to live in a friendly, safe neighborhood with families with young kids (we are both in our early 30s and plan to start our own soon!). My sister lives in Charlotte so I am familiar with that area but not so much Matthews. Do you think its a good choice for us? We also are in the 130-150 price range so were limited in our search. Thanks!

Thanks (belated) for the help, morethanmyself! We had to put moving plans on hold this fall, but now are more seriously looking into it again. I will indeed be checking into these subdivisions.
Anyone else have a neighborhood they really like? Thanks!

Congrats McHumkin- did you wind up finding a place with lots of families?
I am a little nervous in anticipation of selling our home (this is our first home), and then house hunting, job hunting, etc, from 700 miles away. I can't wait til all is said and done!
Anyone have any stories of moving from the north to Charlotte, and how it went for you? Thanks
Jenny

Finally Settled
Thanks Jennyk9! We are very happy with our choice. Our neighborhood does have some families with younger children, some with teenagers and some retired. I've met a few of the neighbors and they seem nice. It's very diverse which we like.
My husband and I love Charlotte. He is from up north (mass.) and I'm from down here. It's got a great combo for notherners and southerners.
Good luck selling your home!
